Look, we all get stuck in a rut sometimes. We know what we need to do but simply cannot be bothered. You know what you are doing is not pushing you in the direction of your goals, but it feels like a problem for a later date.
Whenever I catch myself here, I’ve got some go-to journal prompts which I share with my clients too. These will not only help you get out of a rut but also realign with your values and gain perspective.
So, here it goes!
When we remove any transactional reward and external validation, we gain clarity on what topics and subjects genuinely matter to us.
By identifying a person you consider successful, you gain insight into how you define success. It looks different for different people. Some value a house, family, and routine, while others value financial freedom, travel, and independence.
This will give you insight into how you wish to be perceived by others.
Perhaps it’s something you still love today but have lost touch with. Adulting tends to get busy and complex, but there is no reason why you can’t take up netball or piano lessons again.
This will highlight your passions. It can be as simple as speaking to a friend on the phone, indicating the value you place on social connections.
This will help you identify your priorities and actions that really matter to you.
This will help you tap into your emotional drivers, which are so much more powerful than logical drivers.
This will help you realign your actions with your values.
This will give you actionable steps to move forward with.
Once you’ve answered these questions, journal about how your current actions align with these values and whether there is anything you need to pivot on. What changes are you going to make?
And remember, if you need a sounding board, I am always here. Here’s to getting out of the rut!
